Rated as an AAAA site (China’s highest accolade for tourist attractions), the Luoyang Fengxiang Hot Springs make a great day out for both adults and kids. There are ten separate indoor and outdoor hot springs at different temperatures (around 40 degrees centigrade), a wave pool, water slide and restaurants and cafes on site.

You can also indulge in a fish spa, massage, back rub and acupuncture, although these services cost extra.

The hot springs are located above the city to the South, very close to Longmen Grottoes. You can choose to stay as a guest at the on-site hotel or visit as a day trip.

About the Luoyang Fengxian Hot Springs

The hot springs are there due to the Longmen Xishan geological fault zone. Spring water erupts from the fissures in the fault at 90 degree centigrade, but the temperature of the water in the hot springs is around 40c.

The water contains minerals such as sulphur which is said to have positive effects on health, from oily skin and acne to lowering of blood pressure and more. I don’t know much about the science behind all that, but it’s certainly a good stress reliever and makes for an excellent day out.

How to Use the Hot Springs

Upon arrival at the main entrance, go to the reception desk to get an armband with locker key and token to pass through barrier (you don’t pay until you leave).

Go down one floor to the changing rooms (elevator or stairs). Store your valuables and anything you don’t need in your locker. Towels are available, so take one from here if you didn’t bring your own.

Go down another level to the poolside entrance.

Enjoy the hot springs. Every hour the wave machine will be turned on in the main pool. There are lots of other smaller pools across the complex. The temperatures of the water is displayed on electronic thermometers next to the pools.

Once you have enjoyed your time, head back to the changing rooms and then pay as you exit when you return your locker key.

Be aware that the staff don’t speak English, but you should be able to navigate yourself easily enough.
